A fresh perspective on washroom hygiene

Friday, 17 June 2022

The world of washroom hygiene presents a host of environmental opportunities for the cleaning sector. New materials and products are regularly coming to market designed to lessen the impact on the environment and reduce waste, while also providing effective alternatives to using harsh chemical cleaning agents in regular regimes. The challenge is sourcing and manufacturing products that meet these requirements while also delivering a hygienic clean in washroom areas.

In this article, Gill Ireson, head of sales at Robert Scott discusses which products are proving, time and again, to be most effective and those that are making a real difference for end users in the washroom hygiene category.

Duop Reach cleaning tool

Duop Reach is a versatile, extendable cleaning tool featuring a unique, ergonomic ball and socket joint making cleaning strain-free for users and perfect for hard-to-reach areas in washrooms.
The kit comprises the Duop Reach extendable handle, removable quickball and pad holder, four microfibre pads, five Hi-shine microfibre cloths and spray bottle. The handle helps to clean hard to reach surfaces, while users can also remove the head for targeted hand cleaning, making it one of the most versatile products for washrooms with multiple surface heights and materials.

The washable microfibre pads provide a quick and effective method of removing 99.9 per cent of harmful bacteria without the need for chemicals and effectively clean away dirt, dust and microorganisms.

The pads easily attach to the head and can be used dry for dusting, or simply with water to lift and remove dirt. A cleaning pad is available for heavy duty cleaning and a glass pad can be used for windows and shiny surfaces, such as taps and handles.

The toilet brush reinvented

The Loowy replaces old-fashioned, dirt-gathering toilet brushes with an antibacterial, water-repellent silicone waveform blade for cleanliness. It’s also quick-drying, easy to rinse and incredibly durable.
By staying clean and clog-free, it lasts far longer than a conventional toilet brush, saving money and reducing plastic waste. It’s an ideal brush for general use but also where brushes aren’t left next to toilets, as it can be easily moved without unhygienic drips.

The perfect finish

Hi-shine microfibre cloths are ideal for achieving a spotless finish in washrooms, designed to give a fast, smear-free clean on glass, steel and shiny surfaces thanks to the unique properties of the microfibre fabric. Hi-shine cloths can be used wet or dry and are highly absorbent and quick-drying.

For general cleaning, the new Ecofibre cloth offers the cleaning power of traditional microfibre, with the environmental benefit of using recycled plastic bottles in its production. Each cloth is made from 55% recycled plastic, with two recycled bottles in each Ecofibre cloth. The Ecofibre cloth offers exceptional cleaning with its ultrafine microfibres which have a completely different structure to woven cotton cloths. Much like traditional microfibre, the Ecofibre cloth can be used dry or damp with your chosen solution and works effectively using just tap water.

A smarter cleaning solution

When looking at cleaning agents for washrooms, Toucan Eco is an effective, disinfectant cleaning solution that uses nothing more than water, salt and electricity.

The Toucan Eco system uses an electrical current to activate a solution of water and salt, creating active compounds of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and a low concentration of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO). This creates a powerful, eco-friendly and safe solution, reducing the need for over 80% of synthetic chemical cleaners and the single-use plastic bottles they are supplied in. The solution is proven to kill up to 99.999% of germs and is certified to EN antiviral and antibacterial tests.
