Robert Scott's White Aprons - the perfect canvas for artistic minds!
Friday 2nd July 2010The Art Room is a charity set up in Oxford in 2002 which offers art as a form of therapy to children and young people aged between 7-15 years old, many of whom have specific learning difficulties. The Art Room practices art to raise the children's self esteem and confidence by using white aprons exclusively from Robert Scott's, the aprons are used as blank canvases for children to paint and sew on.

At Rosehill Primary School in Oxford the children painted their aprons with images inspired by the beautifully illustrated childrens book The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson. The children used the story as a basis to illustrate onto the aprons with pictures of the Tin Forest. During the final stages of the project some of the children decorated their paintings by sewing onto them, and they also planted some Nasturtium seeds like the red flowers which are illustrated in the book.
As you can see from the pictures the project was very successful and fun filled, the children really enjoyed it, especially as they can take the aprons home at the end of the day end enjoy wearing them.

Several of our aprons have also been painted upon by several professional artists and then auctioned off which has so far raised over £28,000 for the charity.
We are delighted to be involved with such a worthwhile project and are also looking at providing cloths and mops as well as aprons - apparently mops make a very good substitute for hair - now there's an idea for some of the more follically challenged amongst us!

The Tin Forest book, good inspiration for artistic minds!
